Antiracism Activation: What Am I Fighting For?
You wanna know what I’m fighting for… I am fighting for the birthright of my two grandsons and their contemporaries to freely, peacefully, and respectfully exist in the skin, the hair, and the body in which they were born.
I am fighting for our right to exist in the diversity of the human community like one who has been fearfully, wonderfully, and purposefully made to be seen in the fullness of personhood.
I am fighting for our past to not be whitewashed like a suburban fence stretching across decades of redline neglect and theft of creativity, land, and life.
I am fighting for our present and our presence to not be relegated into a colorblind wasteland like an ambient noise that drowns out our unique sound.
I am fighting for the richness of our stories, experiences, and personal narratives to be recognized as vibrant and relevant dots in the pointillism painting of America.
I am fighting for courage, conversation, and accountability to emerge as social weapons of choice for cultural innovation in America that is built on the common ground of social, health, and economic equity. This is what I’m fighting for…
