Ujamaa Collective New Quarterly Newsletter: Voices of Ujamaa

From the Creative Community Engagement Circle of Ujamaa Collective

What Is Voices Of Ujamaa?

In a time when economic systems extract more than they build, cooperative models offer a powerful alternative. They are rooted in shared ownership, shared responsibility, and shared reward. That spirit is the foundation of Voices of Ujamaa, the new quarterly newsletter from Ujamaa Collective.

Voices of Ujamaa explores cooperative economics as a pathway to sustainable community wealth. Each issue highlights strategies, stories, and practical tools that move us beyond individual survival toward collective strength. From cooperative business models to financial literacy and economic solidarity, this newsletter centers the principle of Ujamaa — collective work and shared responsibility.

More than information, Voices of Ujamaa is an invitation. An invitation to rethink ownership. To rethink growth. And to rethink what it means to build wealth together.

Here's What You Can Expect Each Quarter

Voices of Ujamaa is a publication of the Creative Community Engagement Circle (CCEC) within Ujamaa Collective. We are grateful to share this new offering with you and to open another meaningful way for our cooperative and community to stay connected. This collective publication is shaped by the work, ideas, and lived experiences of our members. It offers a window into how we move as a cooperative. How we support one another. How we build together. And how we stay connected to you — the community that continues to walk with us.

What’s more, in each quarter you’ll find stories, reflections, and columns rooted in:

  • Cooperative education
  • The creativity, leadership, and perspectives of our members
  • Upcoming workshops, programs, and community events
  • Wellness practices that support everyday living
  • The Wisdom Corner, where members share insights from their journeys
  • Dear Ujamaa Sisters, our community advice column.

Overall, our intention is simple:

  • Strengthen connection.
  • To celebrate the people who make Ujamaa possible.
  • Share knowledge in ways that feel accessible, relevant, and useful.
  • Deepen the relationship between our cooperative and you, the broader community we serve.

“Voices of Ujamaa shares reflections on what’s unfolding within the collective. We offer these insights to our wider community as a way to stay connected to our practices, questions, and growth. This is part of how we stay in relationship with you, our beloved community.”  — Tia Baker, Membership Director

From the Desk of Anita D Russell: My Role in the Ujamaa Newsletter

“I am personally excited and blessed to be a part of the Ujamaa Collective here in my home city of Pittsburgh, PA. When we talk about empowerment and community focus, it is happening right here in our own backyard.

The quarterly newsletter Voices of Ujamaa, which launched in January, is simply amazing—an incredible example of community engagement and cooperative action. This masterful work is produced by the Creative Community Engagement Circle (CCEC), of which I am a proud member. I am also honored to contribute as a writer for the Dear Ujamaa Sisters column.

This work reflects my personal commitment to the Reimagine We platform, which I developed as a journey of Personal Empowerment, Community Engagement, and Cooperative Economics.”

— Anita D. Russell
